Tuscany is world-renowned for its exceptional red wines, but few know about the small region of San Gimignano, where an extraordinary white wine called Vernaccia is produced. This dry, well-structured wine, although not overly aromatic, holds a unique charm that wine lovers will appreciate.
Your journey will begin with a visit to a carefully selected winery in the heart of Chianti Classico, where you will not only enjoy exceptional red wines but also learn about the art of winemaking.
A guided tour of the winery's cellar will provide you with insights into the production process, making your wine tasting experience even more rewarding. Afterward, indulge in a tasting of 3 to 4 top-tier wines, representing the best that Tuscany has to offer. Along with the wines, you'll be treated to a tasting of extra-virgin olive oil, produced locally from the estate’s own olives.
Next, we will head toward San Gimignano, just an hour’s drive from Florence, offering one of the most scenic drives through Tuscany's stunning countryside. Upon arrival, you'll visit a winery known for producing the iconic Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Experience both the classic and the Riserva version of Vernaccia, which ages in small oak barrels for several months, creating a wine with a deep, rich flavor.
Following a tour of the cellar, enjoy a home-cooked Tuscan lunch paired with the winery’s best wines. The estate's own olive oil will be part of the meal, adding another local touch to your experience.
Your tour wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the charming town of San Gimignano, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stroll through its cobbled streets, admire the medieval towers, and take in the panoramic views. Don’t miss the chance to try some of Italy's best gelato at one of San Gimignano's famous gelaterias.
We had a phenomenal wine tasting experience in Tuscany with Italyandwine.net! Andrea was incredibly knowledgeable as a level 3 sommelier, and guided us through our day as he shared his passion for wine as we toured 2 wineries along with his love for history as we drove from one location to the next. We enjoyed a stop in San Gimignano to explore the historic, medieval town and from there toured 2 wineries with a wonderful wine selection and lunch included. Our understanding of Tuscany's tight restrictions for wine only broaden our knowledge of quality wine and variation of grapes and felt like we left with a comprehensive understanding of each wine we tasted and the wine-making process. It was the highlight of our 2 weeks in Italy and we will definitely be back to explore other wineries within the region through this great, family-run business!
Andrea was the best guide we have ever had. He was very knowledgable and very kind. He arrived on time and communicated clearly what to expect throughout the day. He also provided great insights to the wines and region.
My wife and I joined Matteo on a private wine tour in Tuscany. Matteo was helpful, knowledgeable and a great guide through the Tuscan countryside and wines. We will definitely recommend to friends and hope to get back soon for more fantastic Italian wine!
Our family was looking for a wine tour that could accommodate 9 people — most companies cap their groups at 8 — and also include some white wines alongside the famous Tuscan reds. Italy and Wine were incredibly flexible and attentive to our requests.
Our guide, Ingrid, was excellent, sharing fascinating insights about the history and culture of San Gimignano. We loved exploring the medieval town as much as we enjoyed the vineyards and wines. The first winery served an amazing lunch that just kept coming — each course thoughtfully paired with a different wine, making it a true culinary experience.
Overall, this tour exceeded our expectations. It was educational, fun, and a highlight of our trip. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Tuscany, whether you’re a seasoned wine enthusiast or just starting to explore!
